Rupan Samanta is an established and highly acclaimed professional Classical Vocalist. of North India. She is well appreciated by her audience and critics for the tonal quality and sensuousness of her voice. Having pursued and perfected music of the Banaras Gharana, Rupan's talent is vast and varied. She has mastered several musical forms ranging from khayal to Tappa, Thumri, Chaiti, Kajri, Jhula, Dadra. Hari and Bhajan. Rupan has a mellifluous voice the effect of which holds the audience spellbound, irrespective of age or experience! She started learning vocal music under the guidance of her father Birindra Nath Sarkar at the age of four.  Thereafter, she was fortunate in receiving training from the legendary Vocalist of Banaras Gharana Padmabhushan Smt. Girija Devi in the Guru Shisya Parampara. One gets to savour the remarkable features and flavour of this Gharana in the rendition of her songs.

Rupan has had the honour to share the stage with Smt. Girija Devi at a number of musical conferences in Mirjapur, Allahbad, Delhi, Jaipur, Ahemdabad, Kolkata, Banaras and many other places in all over India and abroad. Rupan She has had several musical items broadcast on France Radio and has had the proud has also made a mark in the international arena, privilege to perform at the Royal Festival (London), Paris, Switzerland and many more. She has carved a niche for herself the field of music at the U.S.A. where she has peformed at  Los Angels, Austine, Chicago, New Jersey, Arvana Shampane and Sandiago.

Rupan Samanta is an empanelled artist of 1.C.C.R since 2005 and SPIC MACAY since 2001. She is a recognized B. high grade artiste of the All India Radio, (Delhi)

Rupan did her Masters in vocal music from Indira Kala Sngit Vishwavidyalaya (khairagarh). She won the All Bengal Championship (vocal) in 1994 and stood 1st in "Golden Talent Contest" in Pr. Ravi Kichlu foundation in 1997.

Appreciation and accolades has come her way from distinguished artistes like Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pt. Kishan Maharaj, Pt Swapan Chaudhuri, Pt. Α.Τ. Kanan, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pt. Bijoy Kichlu, Pt. Biswamohan Bhatt, Parveen Sultana, Guu Kelucharan Mahapatra Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Gangubai Hongal, Shova Guttu, Shova Mudgal and others.

 

She has been fortunate to have her music recorded with Smt. Girija Devi.
